Oxidative Rates and Phosphorylation in Sarcosomes from Experimentally-Induced Failing Rat Heart.

Abstract
Summary Abdominal aortic constriction was used to induce cardiac hypertrophy in the rat. Sarcosomes isolated from these hearts had significantly lower respiratory rates. The % decrease in Qo2 was 34%, 26%, 32% and 25% with α-ketoglutarate, pyruvate, succinate and malate respectively. With these substrates in the same order the efficiency of phosphorylation was also significantly decreased by 15%, 12%, 26% and 12%.
