Abstract
Cell-free disintegrates of a strain of E. coli obtained by sonic vibration are capable of active desulfhydration of cysteine. The production of H2S is stimulated by adenosine-5-phosphate, pyridoxal phosphate, biotin, and alpha-ketoglutarate and inhibited by phosphoglyceric acid, serine alanine, and semicarbazide. A new method is described for the rapid and convenient estimation of H2S.
