The Daily Activity Patterns of Some Freshwater Fishes

Abstract
Gillnets lifted at 2- to 3-hour intervals indicated differences in the activity of fishes in the Lake in the Woods, Minn., and Clear Lake, Iowa. Stizostedion vitreum, S. canadense and Leucichthys artedi tullibee are more active at night than during the day. Pikeperch show the greatest activity at dusk and at dawn. Perca flacescens and Esox lucius are more commonly caught during the day than night. Catostomus commersonnii, Ameiurus melas and Morone interrupta apparently move into the shallow water at night.
