Abstract
Pneumonia and septicemia are still the principle causes of the high mortality in acute [human] renal failure. According to the EDTA [European Dialysis and Transplantation Association] report, 19% of chronic intermittent dialysis patients die from infection. The resulting conclusion, that cellular and humoral immune responses are suppressed in renal insufficiency, is supported by experimental evidence.Keywords
