Abstract
A high-resolution x-ray-photoelectron-spectroscopy investigation of the multiplet structure of manganese and levels in Mn is reported. The Mn results quantitatively confirm three predictions of a recent configuration-interaction calculation concerning the magnitude of the splitting, the deviation of the observed intensity ratio from the multiplicity ratio, and new structure. The first observation of multiplet splitting of the Mn level is also reported and compared with calculations.
