Abstract
Further expts. using a simple screening test to detect inhibition of the cardiovascular renal effects of DCA in the intact'' animal have been carried out. The criteria used were repeated estimations of the blood pressure during the final week of the expt. as well as the detn. of heart and kindney wt. at autopsy. Lipo-Adrenal Cortex injd. subcut. 0.5 cc. on each of the first 3 days of the expt., 1 cc per day thereafter, effectively inhibited the blood pressure rise and heart wt. increase elicited by DCA, but did not prevent the increase in kidney wt. caused by the latter steroid. Compound S, injd. subcut. 1.25 mg. for each of the first 12 days of the expt. and 2.5 mg. per day thereafter, did not alter the cardiovascular-renal effects of DCA. Compound A, injd. subout., 2 mg./day, also failed to influence these actions of DCA, although it did interfere markedly with growth and produced a striking reduction in adrenal size. The exptl. period was 28 days in the case of Lipo-Adrenal Cortex, 21 days in the case of Compound S and Compound A.
