Abstract
The isolation and purification of an immediate precursor of bacterial cellulose was confirmed with glucose randomly labeled with carbon-14. The glucose appears to be bound within the cell to a lipid, is carried across the bacterial cell wall, and is incorporated enzymatically into cellulose extracellularly. Keywords
