Abstract
Comparison is made of intra-cellular multiplication of S. typhimurium within monocytes in vitro when phagocytized in presence and in absence of specific antiserum. The rabbit antibody delayed burst of cells containing large numbers of organisms, although intracellular multiplication appeared to proceed at the same rate as in absence of antibody. It was demonstrated with fluorescent antibody that the antibody entered the cell when the bacteria were phagocytized. The active portion of the antiserum was in the gamma-globulin fraction of the serum and was precipitated with the somatic antigen of S. typhimurium. Keywords
