Abstract
Conclusive evidence has been obtained to show that nickel may be electro-deposited to form a single crystal hexagonal structure, provided that correct bath conditions and suitable substrates are used. The measured lattice spacings of hexagonal close-packed nickel, a = (2·50 ± 0·01) Å, c = (3·98 ± 0·06) Å, agree well with the values expected. Tentative measurements of the magnetic anisotropy constants K 1 and K 2 have also been made and for films 500 Å thick have been shown to be respectively. Keywords
