Abstract
An all‐glass, eight‐tube trennschaukel has been operated with the two ends maintained at 0° and 100°C. The thermal separation is measured as a function of the period of gas pumped and its amplitude. Four different mixtures of the Ar–He system, covering the entire composition range, have been tried. The details of the experimental setup together with the observed thermal‐diffusion separations are given. The relevant theory and the earlier experimental efforts to understand the trennschaukel operation are briefly discussed. The calculated and the observed mixture separations are in good qualitative agreement with each other. Keywords
