Abstract
The mono-layer properties of the hemolytic fatty acid were compared with those of cis and trans modifications of isomeric acids. This indicated that the acid has the cis configuration. It was concluded from an examination of the dihydroxy derivatives of the cis isomers that the hemolytic acid is a mixture of oleic acid and cis-octadec-11-enoic acid. An X-ray examination of built-up multilayers of the hemolytic acid and isomeric cis acids showed the layer spacing of the hemolytic acid to be identical with that of cis-octadec-11-enoic acid. Keywords
