Abstract
Field and stress-induced ferroelectric phase transitions (FPTs) are characterized and compared with martensitic phase transitions (MPTs) which take place far from thermodynamical equilibrium. Glass-like slowing-down is suggested to be the cause of stabilizing the paraelectric phase. Keywords
