Drugs Acting on AdrenoreceptorsIsoxsuprine Pharmacology Isoxsuprine is a phenylethylamine derivative of epinephrine. The compound is said to be an alpha-adrenoreceptor antagonist with beta-adrenoreceptor-stimulating properties, but the vasodilator effects on muscle blood flow are not prevented by beta-adrenoreceptor blockade.78 The drug also lowers blood viscosity and inhibits platelet aggregation when given in high doses.79 Effect on Cerebral Blood Flow Intravenous isoxsuprine produces both cerebral and peripheral vasodilatation.
