Applications of Mellin Transforms to Some Problems of Statistical Mechanics

Abstract

Use of Mellin transforms is made to get an asymptotic form of an integral containing a power series, where the term by term integration cannot be allowed. Examples are given concerning problems of statistical mechanics, for example, the partition function of an electron gas, the correlation energy of a free electron gas, the partition function of a hard sphere gas at zero-temperature limit.
