Abstract
16 tones of 1000 cps were presented at 20 db above threshold for 16 males and 12 females ranging of 17 to 41 years. The first 6 tones were followed by electric shocks at the subject''s tolerance level. The last 10 tones were not reinforced. Simultaneous recordings were made of the subject''s eeg and electrodermogram. The subjects were then divided into 2 groups on the basis of their eeg patterns. 10 males and 7 females were in the high-alpha group. Among the males the low-alpha group gave significantly more responses on the average than the high-alpha group. There was an opposite but not significant trend for the females. Keywords
