Cingulate Gyrus Seizures

Abstract
In 19 freely moving cats the cingulate gyrus was electrically stimulated and resulting behavioral and eeg changes correlated and contrasted with hippocampal induced seizures. Cingulate gyrus stimulation and seizures are accompanied by drowsiness and sleep spindles and not activation. Threshold for cingulate gyrus seizures is 1 - 2 volts greater than for hippocampal, and the seizure doesn''t last as long. Cingulate gyrus seizures propagate most readily to the opposite cingulate. Suprathreshold stimuli are necessary for propagation to the hippocampal system. Motor and sensory function is unaltered by threshold-produced cingulate gyrus seizures.
