Because of the frequent occurrence of coexisting pathology, the patient undergoing surgical repair of complete rectal prolapse may require relatively long preoperative hospitalization. The one-stage approach illustrated and described here is advocated because of the facility it offers in plastic reconstruction of the rectal suspensory apparatus and because it minimizes complications and recurrences.
