Attempts to Exchange Associated Organisms in Cultures of Endamoeba histolytica

Abstract

Attempts were made to exchange the cultures of E. histolytica growing with Trypanosoma cruzi with those growing with monobacterial cultures. Established methods were employed to eliminate the associated organisms. E. his-tolytica previously grown with trypanosomes could not be cultured with either organism t or ''streptobacillus.'' The amebas growing in association with either bacterial cultures could not be cultured with the trypanosomes. A possible strain difference is postulated.
