Abstract
In 22 of 25 experiments a permanent 31% increase in O consumption was seen in frog sartorius muscles in vitro following intense irradiation with high-voltage unfiltered x-rays. The pos- sibility of contraction was excluded by careful insulation and recorded measurements of the length of muscle during irradiation. The increased metabolism was probably the secondary result of injury to the muscle rather than a specific effect upon oxidation. This publication has 1 reference indexed in Scilit:
