Über das Verhalten von l- und d-Histidin im Tierkörper

Abstract
The urine of adult [male][male] guinea pigs injected subcut. with 0.1-0.6 g. 1-histidine in neutral soln./l00 g. body wt. was examined for total imi-dazole by the photometric method and 1-histidine by the enzymatic histidase method. Imidazole disappeared 24 hrs. after the injn. of either 1- or d-histidine. The smaller doses of 1-histidine were retained, but of the 0.2-0.6 g. doses 20-30% was excreted. When d-histidine was injected in doses of 0.001-0.2 g./l00 g. body wt., almost all of it was excreted within 24 hrs. Apparently it was not converted into 1-histidine. Ascorbic acid did not seem to affect histidine excretion, and urocanic acid was not found in the urine specimens. The excretion threshold after the adm. of 1-histidine was the same for adult S and pregnant and non-pregnant [female] guinea pigs. Four guinea pigs given 0.1 g. imi-dazolelactic acid/100 g. body wt. excreted most of it in the urine in 24 hrs.
