Effect of DDT on Dairy Cattle and Milk1

Abstract
Two Holstein cows were force fed technical grade DDT by balling gun for a 29-day period. One cow was fed 25 20-g. doses and the other 21 5-g. doses. Neither cow showed extreme symptoms of DDT poisoning at any time. Slight stiffness and excitability was evident during the 1st week of the expt. Milk from each cow was bioassayed using houseflies. The milk from the cow dosed with 20 g. of DDT per day was highly toxic to flies for 9 days and of variable toxicity thereafter; milk from the cow receiving the 5-g. doses was highly toxic to the flies on the 8th day only.
