Abstract
Using Van Slyke, Dillon and MacFadyen''s specific ninhydrin method for determining blood amino acid content the authors confirmed previous investigators'' observations that epineph-rin and insulin given subcut. decrease the plasma amino acids. Pitressin, antuitrin S, adrenal cortical hormone, testosterone propionate, and thyroxin injected intraven. increase the plasma amino acids. Growth-promoting substance of the ant. pituitary, intraperit., decreases plasma amino acids; intraven., it raises them. None of the amino acid changes were accompanied by significant changes in blood urea N. Changes in the plasma amino acids after insulin were not accompanied by changes in cell amino acids.
