Abstract
Spontaneous rupture of the previously normal esophagus does occur. No case has yet been treated successfully and diagnosis has only been achieved in a very few before death. Perhaps recognition that the accident can occur, knowledge of the symptomology and thoractomy as soon as the diagnosis is made may save the lives of patients with this unusual condition. The symptoms are described fully and suggestions made for procedures following thoracotomy. Keywords
