Theory of T.Y.SUNG for vertical vibrations is cited and graphs are presented which may be used for analysis or design; comparison with behavior of oscillator on semi-infinite elastic body; to evaluate dynamic characteristics of foundation, shear modulus and Poisson's ratio of underlying soil need to be determined; typical values of soil constants and methods of establishing them at particular site; examples are included.
