Abstract
The structure functions of spin-dependent deep-inelastic electron-proton scattering are calculated within the cavity approximation to the MIT bag model of hadrons. As expected, Bjorken scaling is obtained. The model predicts two nontrivial structure functions, unlike simple parton models. It is argued that this behavior is associated with the explicit quark confinement of the bag model. The general features of the structure functions are discussed and the shortcomings of the approximations used are explained. The two sum rules obtained from previous light-cone analyses are verified.
