Abstract
The relationships between the members of the punctulatus complex were studied. Detailed morph. studies were made of the larvae, pupae, and adult 9 9 from Espiritu Santo in the New Hebrides, Guadalcanal in the Solomon Is., Hollandia in Dutch New Guinea, and Morotai in the Moluccas. The material consisted of associated larval, pupal, and adult specimens collected as larvae from natural breeding places, and of laboratory reared progeny from individual 9 9. Because the coloration characteristics of the progeny were, with few exceptions, similar to that of the parent 9 , it is concluded that the members of the complex are genetically distinct, and because they may be found together in the same breeding places, they are considered to be full species. The members of the complex are classified as follows: A. punctulatus, A. farauti (A. moluccensis Swellenbrebel and Swellengrebel de Graaf, 1920); A. koliensis (A. moluccensis, in part, of Edwards, 1921, de Rook, 1924, and of Swellengrebel and Rodenwaldt, 1932); and A. clowi from Dutch New Guinea. Keywords
