Effects of Benzedrine Sulfate (Amphetamine) on Psychomotor Performance

Abstract

The effects of benzedrine sulfate on psychomotor performance were measured by the Griffitts test. Ingestion of benzedrine reliably facilitated performance on the multiplication, selective substitution, and arithmetic speed tests. Statistically less reliable facilitation was noted on letter series, paper and pencil, motor, over and under, and word completion tests. Evidence was given to support the hypothesis that benzedrine exerts its facilitating influence in part by increasing flexibility of performance. No differential effect was found between the performance of "fast" and "slow" workers on the tests used in this study.
