MODE OF ACTION OF ANTITHYROID COMPOUNDS

Abstract
Literature principally since 1947 is reviewed: inhibition of the iodine-concentrating mechanism of the thyroid by thiocyanate; inhibition of thyroxine synthesis by iodides, p-aminobenzoic acid, sulfonamides, thiourea, thiouracils, aminothiazoles, 2-mercaptoimidazoles, and possibly thiocyanate; inhibition of thyroid activity through tissue destruction by radioactive I isotopes.
