Pancytopenia Due to Mesantoin

Abstract
SINCE the introduction of Mesantoin (3 methyl-5, 5-phenylethyl-hydantoin) as an anticonvulsant a number of cases of depression of bone marrow, thought to be due to this drug, have been reported.1 2 3 4 5 We wish to add another case of pancytopenia due to Mesantoin.Case ReportB. L. Z., a 28-year-old pharmacy student, was admitted to the hospital on August 3, 1948, complaining of multiple bruises, spontaneous nosebleeds, sore throat, chills and fever.
