Direct Determination of Maximal Daily Metabolism of Alcohol

Abstract

Direct expts. on 2 moderate drinkers (males) and 2 alcoholics, (1 male and 1 female),indicate a range of alcohol metabolism of 383-760 ml. of 100-proof liquor; the metabolism by the moderate drinkers ranged between the female alcoholic (lowest) and the male alcoholic (highest). The previous estimate of a possible metabolization of a quart/day of 100-proof liquor for man is probably too high for most.
