Postoperative PancreatitisPostoperative pancreatitis is a bizarre and unpredictable disease. An increasing number of articles on this problem are now appearing in the literature. We56 57 58 have reported from time to time upon this catastrophic complication, and recently, Cattell, Warren and Prezioso59 once more reviewed the experience with postoperative pancreatitis at the Lahey Clinic. Schmeiden and Sebening60 pointed out conclusively that this complication occurred most frequently after gastric surgery and then, in turn, after biliary surgery and splenectomy.
