Abstract
A late Pleistocene basaltic tephra is mapped in the Bay of Plenty district. Named the Matahi Basaltic Tephra, it conformably underlies rhyolitic deposits of the Rotoiti Breccia Formation without apparent time break and is thus radiocarbon dated at c. 42,000 years B.P. The eruptive source appears to lie within the Okataina Volcanic Centre, near Lake Rotoma. Keywords
