Abstract
Large amounts of peroxidase are released from eosinophils that ingest complexes of human immunoglobulin [Ig] and specific rabbit antibody. Complexes of IgE and rabbit antibody were particularly effective. The amount of rate of release of peroxidase was closely related to the amounts of complex ingested by the eosinophils and the degree of lysis of cell granules. Eosinophils attracted to an allergic lesion probably ingest complexes of IgE and demonstrate lysis of granules with release of peroxidase. The peroxidase may reduce the allergic reaction.
