Abstract
At Beaumont, Texas Carpophilus dimidiatus may overwinter in both pupal and adult stages. Oviposition commences early in Mar., [female][female] depositing 175 to 225 eggs each. Under optimum summer conditions the life cycle may be completed in 18 days; in winter it may extend over 150-200 days. The beetle prefers food of 15-33% moisture content. It can breed in putrefying food, but develops more rapidly in sterile food.
