Abstract
The collective resonances for propagation perpendicular to the static external magnetic field are discussed, when that field is in simple symmetry directions. It is shown that the resonant frequencies derived in a previous paper for the case of propagation parallel to the field are still distinguishable in the present case, although the character of the modes is altered. In particular, the plasma mode with frequency proportional to the magnetic field becomes a transverse plane wave polarized in the direction of the magnetic field, and so might be observed as a transmission resonance. A hybrid "cutoff" appears below the higher cyclotron resonance frequency. Conditions for observation of the modes are analyzed. Keywords
