Mortality in Swine Exposed to Gamma Radiation from an Atomic Bomb Source

Abstract

Landrace-cross farrowed swine of an average weight of 67.2 lbs. were exposed to radiation of an atomic bomb. All animals which recieved between 320 and 1000 r died. Eight of 10 animals exposed to 275 r died before the 19th day and 2 survived for 30 days. Two of 10 swine exposed to 180 r died on or before the 17th day, the remaining survived 30 days. These data are in agreement with previous studies using X-rays generated at 2000 k.v.p.
