Anaphylaxis in the Mouse Produced with Crystalline Bovine Albumin

Abstract
Sensitization and fatal anaphylactic shock was produced in the mouse with 1 mg doses of crystalline bovine albumin dissolved in saline. Using alum-precipitated bovine albumin, the sensitizing doses were reduced to 0.016 mg. Following sensitization with alum-precipitated bovine albumin, fatal shock was produced with a challenging dose of 0.016 mg of antigen. The mouse shows a satisfactory degree of susceptibility to fatal anaphylactic shock. Further studies with this species appear justified.
