Oxida-tion of glucose by the hexose monophosphate shunt pathway has been estimated by measuring the radioactive CO2 produced from l-C-14 glucose added to blood treated with methylene blue. A significant decrease in early C-14 O2 production has been found in blood obtained from thyrotoxic patients and normal subjects treated with triiodo-thyronine.
