Effects of Cortisone in Myotonia Atrophica

Abstract
Cortisone acetate was admd. orally and intramusc. to 6 cases of myotonia atrophica in daily doses of 100-250 mg. During cortisone therapy there was a reduction in the myotonic contraction of muscles, a decreased 24-hr. urinary excretion of 17-ketosteroids, and a fall in urinary creatinine excretion. Incidental observations include increased growth of scalp, facial and body hair, and increased sense of well-being.
