Abstract
SUMMARY: A standardized method for the assay of small amounts of insulin (10–1000 μu./ml.) by measuring the effect on the glucose uptake of rat diaphragm in vitro is described. The most sensitive part of the concentration/response curve is within the range 10–150 μu./ml., and over this range there is a straight-line relationship between insulin concentration and insulin effect. The importance of having a protein such as gelatin present in dilute solutions of insulin is discussed.
