Ibuprofen was compared with indomethacin and placebo in a double-blind crossover trial. At a dosage of 600 mg. daily it was shown to be inferior to indomethacin and not significantly superior to placebo. The clinical effect of ibuprofen was considerably enhanced when the dosage was increased to 1, 200 mg. daily, but remained significantly inferior to that of indomethacin.
