Egg and larval development of the silver warehou,Seriolella punctata(Pisces: Centrolophidae)

Abstract
The silver warehou, S. punctata (Forster in Bloch Schneider), is the commonest and the most commercially important of the 4 members of the genus Seriolella known from New Zealand water. Eggs ranged from 1.10-1.17 mm in diameter and contained a single oil droplet 0.30-0.35 mm in diameter. Hatching occurred after 146 h at 10-13.degree. C, and larvae survived for 4 days. Comparison with other Seriolella spp. shows features allowing distinction of S. punctata eggs and larvae.
