HASHIMOTO'S DISEASE*

Abstract
28 cases of Hashimoto''s disease (struma lymphomatosa), all females, have been seen since 1935, 26 since 1934. The avg. age of these patients was less than that previously reported in the literature, and the preoperative basal metabolism was higher. All were treated surgically. Following total thyroidectomy mild myxedema developed in 61.5%; of the patients following subtotal thyroidectomy, it developed in only 6.7%.
