The amylase of Clostridium butyricum

Abstract
From cell-free culture filtrates of C. butyricum a starch-degrading enzyme prepn. was isolated in the form of a stable freeze-dried powder. The enzyme belonged to the group of alpha-amylases, but differed from either salivary or malt alpha-amylase in that its action on potato amylose and starch ceased abruptly when 65.5 and 66.5% apparent maltose, respectively, were liberated. Some observations on the maltase secretion of the organism were made.
