Abstract
Marked differences in the degree of maturity of the various lymph organs were noted in newborn and young guinea pigs. Peyer''s patches are the first to reach maturity. The other lymph organs reach maturity in the following order Peyer''s patches, cervical lymph nodes, lymph nodes of the extremities, tracheal and mesenteric lymph nodes and white splenic pulp. The degree of maturity is based on no. of nodules without light centers, density and mass of diffuse lymphocytes, and the no. of Flemming type of nodules with the light center. These latter appear between the 1st and 23d day after birth in the different lymph organs. The regional differences are considered as dependent on a synergism between the regional histology at birth and some exogenous stimuli probably reaching the system after birth in the same regional order.
