o-Diphenol Oxidases in Sweet Potato Infected by the Black Rot Fungus

Abstract
O-Diphenol oxidase [EC 1. 10. 3. 1] activity in sweet potato roots infected with (Ceratocystis fimbriata) was fractionated by DEAE-cellulose column chromatography into 3 fractions, called components I, II and HI. The enzyme in the cut and healthy tissues was found to be composed of II and III, and II, respectively. Component III was different from component II in terms of immunological and electro-phoretic behavior. Two components were detected in component HI by starch-gel electrophoresis which were identical with each other.
