Spermatic Cord Block in Urologic Surgery

Abstract
Local anesthesia sufficient for vasovasostomy, hydrocelectomy, spermatocelectomy or orchiectomy for prostatic carcinoma can be obtained with 10-12 ml 0.5% bupivacaine hydrochloride injected through the spermatic cord .apprx. 1 cm below and medial to the pubic tubercle. The overlying skin is infiltrated with the same anesthetic. Preoperative and intraoperative sedation is rarely needed. The postanesthetic recovery time is short and the need for postoperative analgesia is reduced.
