Abstract
Ixodes ricinus (L.) ticks are more dispersed both in time and space in Ireland than in Britain. In Ireland louping ill virus may occur at lower altitudes involving a somewhat wider range of incidental maintenance hosts. Consequently, cattle and possibly man may be infected more frequently than in Britain.
