Abstract
A four-phase intervention model for containing localized heroin epidemics was tested in a black public housing project in Chicago where a heroin epidemic beginning in 1967 had produced approximately 50 new addicts by the end of 1971. The implementation of the intervention model is described in detail. Data are presented to show the impact of the program on heroin incidence and prevalence trends in the target community.Keywords
