Abstract
Implantation of stilbestrol (ca 15 mg.) in immature hypophysectomized rats prevents loss of wt. of the ovaries, although atrophy of the interstitial cells is not prevented. The estrogen appears to stimulate proliferation of the membraaa granulosa. Implantation 17 days after hypophysectomy stimulates only non-atrophic semi-mature follicles. Ovarian stimulation by estrogen is not affected by neutralization of adult rat pituitary activity by antigonadotrophic serum. The effect is histologically demonstrable with daily inj. of 12.5 [gamma] estrone.
